The most versatile glider for a beginner to select is the 2-metre class, such as the Great Planes Spirit illustrated above. The Spirit comes as a kitset ready to assemble with most parts already die-cut to shape, and includes an excellent step-by-step instruction manual ideal for someone new to the hobby.

The Spirit requires just two servos to operate the rudder and elevator (three if optional spoilers are fitted) so it may be flown with a low-cost 2-channel radio set. Total cost with 2ch radio - under $300.

Note: The Club has a glider available with dual control transmitters allowing a beginner to learn to fly safely under the supervision of a Club instructor.
